Restraint Gauge mobile app.
- The use of this app do not entirely resume the role of the engineer who has engineered the transport. It simply offers a means of checking the restraint achievable by any installed lashing. The authorities concerned still govern the acceptance of the readings. The client project manager in charge is also responsible for accepting the readings taken by this app.
- This application uses the gyroscope to measure changes in angular movement as the device is in motion. However, if the device moves too quickly, the changes in angles may not be detected. Sudden movements can also cause the gyroscope to not keep up with the changes.
- It is well-known that most gyroscopes experience yaw-drift, which can contribute to potential errors. Yaw-drift in a gyroscope refers to the gradual deviation in angular measurements over time, even when the device is stationary. The tolerances within most gyroscopes are within acceptable levels for their applications. To reduce possible errors, the application relies on user knowledge and handling during the measurement process.
- This application has taken an additional step to improve measurement accuracy by incorporating a reference sample before the final reading. Except for those that could arise from sudden or drastic movements. This additional step, helps minimize errors from the natural yaw-drift possibly present in most gyroscopes.
- Although this application includes additional steps to enhance accuracy, the way the user handles the device between measurements is vital. Emphasizing proper user handling is crucial for ensuring consistency and accuracy between measurements. By reducing the duration between two readings, yaw-drift due to time lapse is significantly minimized. However, reducing the duration between measurements should not subject the gyroscope to sudden movements. It should ensure gradual consistency in the movement.
- The changes in angular movement must be recorded carefully when concerned with drift due to sudden movements. This minimizes the likelihood of missing any changes. This can be achieved by avoiding drastic movements of the device between measurements.
- Despite the existing flaws and steps taken to improve accuracy, the application does not dictate how measurements are taken. Ultimately, accuracy depends on the user’s handling of the device during measurement.
